Description

Experience the power of knowledge through storytelling. The Inklings Collection, designed to be used together with the works of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Dorothy Sayers, offers a journey towards wisdom. We have carefully crafted these literature guides, named Walking to Wisdom, to guide students through these extraordinary books and develop their reading skills. Both fiction and nonfiction works by Tolkien, Sayers, and Lewis are included, encompassing various genres such as drama, short stories, novels, satire, and allegory. To illuminate their fiction, we have incorporated nonfiction essays by Lewis and Sayers in the guides that analyze their works.

Our aim is for students to embark on a full-year exploration of twentieth-century British literature, using all eight guides. However, even using just one guide will prove beneficial. Each literature guide can stand alone but also connects with the others, featuring sidebar comments and thematic continuity. These books have the power to transform students' lives while teaching them the art of joyful, profound, and skilled reading, as well as preparing them for effective writing.

These comprehensive literature guides encourage students to:

  • Take notes directly in their books

  • Answer reading questions

  • Create their own questions

  • Read sample student writing

  • Keep book-wide notes on themes and motifs

  • Engage in discussions about thematic material

  • Memorize important quotations

  • Prepare for writing while reading

  • Participate in creative enrichment activities related to the books

This literature guide specifically references page numbers from the 2001 HarperCollins edition of The Chronicles of Narnia (complete collection). However, with some additional preparation, you can use this guide with any edition of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Regarding the teacher's edition: this essential companion to the student guide offers sample essays, along with answers and instructions for teachers. By comparing their own answers to those provided in the teacher's edition, students can enhance their understanding. The material in the teacher's edition is extensive, the result of deep knowledge and long-term study. Suitable for grades 7-12.
