Description

The R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey curriculum was created for home and small classroom settings, specifically aimed at teachers without a strong background in science. The program includes serious science concepts and enjoyable activities, incorporating mathematics, scientific method, and science terminology that increase in complexity over time. Each topic is presented in a narrative format, followed by hands-on activities, science background information, parent instructions, labs, reading lists, journaling ideas, and websites. The curriculum is comprehensive, incorporating notebooking with lab experiments and review.



RSO Level 1 includes scientific method and age-appropriate mathematics in each course. Students learn how to speculate, hypothesize, experiment, and conclude, while observation skills are developed through sketch drawings and written descriptions. Analytical skills are encouraged through comparing, forming questions, and interpretations. Students will also make age-appropriate calculations, plot results, make graphs, and diagram information like real-life scientists.



REAL Life Chemistry, a part of the RSO Level 1 curriculum, covers atoms, the periodic table, elements, molecules, matter, chemical reactions, genetics, and more. Instructor sheets are included with supply lists, procedure instructions, and read-aloud instructions. Students receive a story-lesson that presents science vocabulary in context, followed by one to four hands-on lab activities that often include charts, questions, or room to record findings, observations, and discussions.



Each book of RSO Level 1 is a complete one-year science curriculum when used one or two times a week and is appropriate for Grades 2-5. The curriculum consists of 430 pages of softcover, revised edition textbooks.
