Get ready to help your students develop their public speaking skills with IEW's 12-week video-based course, Introduction to Public Speaking. This course is designed for middle and high school students and covers memory delivery and evaluation techniques. It also provides instruction on composing and presenting five different types of speeches: self-introductory, narrative, expository, persuasive, and impromptu.
Andrew Pudewa's teaching style is engaging, and the video lessons offer opportunities for students to evaluate recorded speeches that serve as models for each type of presentation. Students will then have about two weeks to write and practice delivering their own speeches, which they will also evaluate.
The course materials include a spiral-bound Teacher's Guide, which features reduced student pages, teaching tips, suggested answers, video board notes, and access to the sample essays presented during the video lessons. Online access is also provided for helpful PDFs, such as speech templates, essay examples, and poetry selections.
It is recommended that students have a basic understanding of how to write an outline and a multiple-paragraph essay. This course is suitable for students in grades 6 to 12.
