The Blue Book---Level 3 (Grade 2)

This program consists of six student books and three teacher support books, all sold separately. To use the program, you will also need to purchase Cuisenaire rods which will help you visually connect with math concepts.

The Blue Book is one of two books for second grade and is preceded by The Red Book and followed by the Green Book (neither included). It features lab sheets that teach math using hands-on manipulatives. Activities in this book are designed to guide you through the learning process and reinforce concepts through touch, sight, movement, and mental engagement. This unique combination provides an environment that encourages active learning and greater comprehension from the start. You can also learn at your own pace and cover topics as needed.

The specific skills covered in The Blue Book include odd-even, addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, geometric recognition, grid, and arrow games.

Miquon Math is a curriculum developed by author Lore Rasmussen during her time as a remedial math teacher at the Miquon School during the 1950s. It asserts that teaching math to young children cannot only be done through verbal teaching. Rather it should be a doing discovering puzzling-out situation in which children are guided to pose questions and answer them in a variety of ways.

Most people find Miquon Math sufficient as a core math curriculum for Grades 1-3, though some parents may choose to also use additional supplemental materials to ensure comprehensive coverage or provide additional practice on specific topics.

Please note that no instructions are provided, and while some lab sheets are self-explanatory, some are not. The Lab Sheet Annotations Book is considered to be a necessary resource in order to teach this course.
