Saxon's "Math Intermediate 5" is a suitable alternative to "Saxon Math 6/5." The program's incremental lessons offer daily practice and assessment in a spiral format. Concepts are taught through engaging lessons, diagrams, interactive activities, and investigations that enhance critical thinking and real-world problem-solving skills. "Math Intermediate 5" comprises 12 sections, 120 lessons, and 12 investigations. The textbook lessons are divided into three sections. The first, "Power-Up Practice," aims to enhance speed, accuracy, and mental math abilities. The "New Concept" section introduces new math concepts through examples, while the "Written Practice" section reviews previously taught concepts through 25-30 problems per lesson. Each 10-lesson section includes an "Investigation," which offers variations of the daily lesson and often involves activities that span an entire class period. The kit includes a "Power-Up Workbook" with consumable pages for students to complete facts practice, mental math, and problem-solving exercises. The "Solutions Manual" provides step-by-step solutions to lesson practice, written practice, and early finishers' questions, as well as those in the investigations. However, it does not include answers to the Power-Up Workbook. The "Homeschool Testing Book" features reproducible cumulative tests available after every five lessons starting from lesson 10. It includes tests, a testing schedule, test answer forms, test analysis form, and test solutions. The answer key provides the final solution only, not the steps taken to arrive at the answer.
