Who Was Marie Curie?
Born in Warsaw, Poland on November 7, 1867, Marie Curie was forbidden to attend the male-only University of Warsaw. Instead, she enrolled at the Sorbonne in Paris to study physics and mathematics. There, she met Pierre Curie, a professor, and they soon married. This partnership led to the discovery of two elements and a Nobel Prize win in 1903. Marie later won another Nobel award for chemistry in 1911. Sadly, she died on July 4, 1934, in Savoy, France due to years of exposure to toxic radiation.
