Words Their Way: Vocabulary for Middle and High School Volume 1 Vocabulary Routine Cards Package
This set of Routine Cards is part of the Words Their Way curriculum for middle school - high school students. These domain-specific cards were created to increase collaboration between content-area teachers in public or private schools. Separate cards are included for the science, social studies, language arts, and math teacher. On each card, a 7-step subject-specific routine is given to help teachers coach students on how to learn the domain-specific vocabulary (e.g. 1) Define the Word 2) Use Context as a Clue 3)Use Text Features 4)Use Word parts as a clue, etc.). The back of the card lists subject-related vocabulary students will learn in the Words Their Way curriculum.
A wide knowledge of vocabulary is incredibly helpful for students' academic success. Words Their Way emphasizes Generative Vocabulary (word parts & meanings), General Academic (specific words needed for school success), and Domain-Specific vocabulary (derived from science, social studies, math, and Language Arts).
In just 15-20 minutes each day, this targeted vocabulary curriculum uses a variety of resources to help students learn over 600 vocabulary words in this fun and engaging program. Students learn to acquire the vocabulary and vocabulary strategies by learning the words in context and then using them in engaging activities. Three-day and five-day scheduling options are suggested; depending on the schedule, teachers cover between 8 and 20 vocabulary words per week. Meets Common Core Standards.
