It is recommended for teachers who have completed the Institute for Excellence in Writing's Teaching Writing: Structure and Style seminar and students who have at least one year of experience with the IEW model of writing. The course covers topics such as thesis statements, MLA format, persuasive essays, research papers, and more.

The teacher's manual provides a scope and sequence, lesson planning help, vocabulary quizzes, and answer keys.
