Description

Since 1871, African American citizens in Birmingham have worked together to gain equal access to justice and public accommodations. In 1963, young people protested in the city, which broke the segregation. They did this despite the risks from law enforcement and vigilantes. Even those who did not participate in the protests were moved to act after the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church, which killed four girls.
