This program equips students to read words, phrases, sentences, and stories independently by covering phonological awareness, decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and spelling.
Explode the Code Book 4 introduces compound words, common word endings, and syllabication, making it ideal for students in Grades 1-3. Through various encoding, decoding, and writing exercises, students engage with skills such as compound words, common word endings -ful, -ing, -est, -ed, -ness, syllable types (open, closed, Cle, silent-e, digraph), and syllabication with 2- and 3-syllable words.
They also practice blending sounds to read and write multisyllabic words. The book includes one review lesson and a post-test. The 2nd Edition of Explode the Code includes revised student directions for precision and ease of understanding, updated content, and some illustrations to clarify examples.
