Reading Comprehension in Varied Subject Matter series

Each passage is followed by comprehension questions, including story recall, inferential questions, and writing prompts. Early Reading Comprehension workbooks (Books A-D)

are designed for young readers in grades 2-4.

Reading Comprehension (Books 1-6)

targets grades 3-8, while

MORE Reading Comprehension (Levels 1-4)

is intended for junior high and older students. Each lesson in the series follows a consistent 7-step format:

1. About the Passage: Introduces the selection and activates prior knowledge.



2. Reason for Reading: Explains the reading skill emphasized.



3. The Selection: Presents thematically organized selections across subject matter.



4. Thinking it Over: Lists broad questions to be answered in writing.



5. Studying the Passage: Asks questions about the main idea, facts, and sequence, prompting students to draw conclusions, make assumptions, and interpret.



6. Using the Words: Encourages students to use new vocabulary words in a paragraph.



7. Writing about It: Has students answer questions about the contents of the selection and offer their interpretation or opinion.

Additionally, the MORE Reading Comprehension series includes a writing component that gives students practice in writing short paragraphs and longer pieces that require critical thinking and explanation of their interpretation of the selection.

MORE Reading Comprehension Level 3

includes 25 selections across six subject areas, including Social Studies, Science, Philosophy Logic and Math, Combined Subjects, Literature and Language, and The Arts. Each subject area features a sample passage title to give students a taste of the content covered. The series addresses a range of skills, including story recall, sequencing, identifying facts, drawing conclusions, vocabulary development, main idea comprehension, extending thoughts in writing, and inference.
