Description

The Phonetic Zoo is a program designed to help students learn how to spell using phonics. It was created by the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW). The program uses auditory input to help students remember the correct spelling of words. Students listen to the word and spell it out loud, letter by letter, to help them remember the correct sequence. The program has different levels, and students should take a placement exam to determine which level is right for them. If a student is ready for Level C, this Starter Set should be purchased. Level C is designed for students in grades 9-12 and includes 47 audio lessons. The Starter Set includes 5 audio CDs, Lesson Cards with spelling words from all three levels (A, B, and C) and jingles, a Personal Spelling Card to track typical misspellings, Zoo Cards for extra practice or rewards, a downloadable Phonetic Zoo Teacher's Notes PDF file, and a Spelling and the Brain video seminar (link to streaming video).
