The RightStart Mathematics program is a unique and comprehensive approach to math that focuses on hands-on learning and problem solving. The program uses visual strategies to help students learn facts and de-emphasizes counting. Students will use the AL Abacus, which is sold separately, as the primary learning tool. The MathCard Games, also sold separately, provide repetition and review. The program uses levels instead of grade levels so that students can start at the level that best suits them.
The RightStart Mathematics Second Edition (RS2) has been updated to include new research and applications. The revised lessons and worksheets have a slightly different and easier-to-follow format, and they also incorporate the Common Core State Standards as a minimum benchmark.
The Lesson Book is clearly organized and features objectives and materials needed for each lesson. The book includes clearly explained activities with teacher notes, as well as any needed explanations to the right of the teacher-led activities. The worksheets book provides worksheets that students can complete or use alongside the manipulatives, which are not included.
