Saxon Math Homeschool 6/5 employs a spiral approach to education, focusing on gradually introducing new material and consistently reinforcing concepts already taught.
Advancing from Saxon Math 5/4, the Saxon 6/5 textbook delves into a breadth of subjects, including the order of operations, geometry, measurement, integers, divisibility, ratios, statistics, probability, and prime and composite numbers. Students also learn about patterns, sequences, powers, and roots. The curriculum is detailed, guiding students through creating multiplication tables, fraction arithmetic, understanding multiples, and measuring perimeters. Additionally, it covers probability basics, working with decimals, reciprocals, volume calculation, square roots, and graphing on a coordinate plane.
Each lesson includes a warm-up featuring fact practice, mental math, and problem-solving exercises, followed by new concept introductions and targeted practice. Mixed practice exercises incorporate 25-30 problems, both new and reviewed. In-depth Investigations appear every ten lessons, each with its own question set, alongside six in-lesson activities and five investigative activities.
