The Philokalia, Volume 1
The Philokalia is a compilation of texts written by spiritual experts of the Orthodox Christian tradition between the fourth and fifth centuries. It was first published in Greek in 1782 and was later translated into Slavonic and Russian. The Philokalia has been more influential than any other book, apart from the Bible, in the recent history of the Orthodox church. It includes the writings of various saints, such as St. Isaiah the Solitary, Evagrios the Solitary, St. John Cassian, St. Mark the Ascetic, St. Hesychios the Priest, St. Neilos the Ascetic, St. Diadochos of Photiki, and St. John of Karpathos.
