John Locke's philosophy on political societies is rooted in the defense of citizens' lives, liberties, and properties. Governments can only derive their authority from the consent of the governed, and the people have the right to revolution if rulers abuse their power. Locke's writings challenged monarchical absolutism and established the separation of powers, property rights, and the nature of consent as important topics for discussion.

Description

John Locke is a person who helped create modern liberalism. He thought that governments should protect the lives, freedoms, and property of people who live in their societies. He also believed that governments only have power because people give it to them.

If rulers become bad and hurt the people they are supposed to protect, it is okay for the citizens to rebel against them. Locke wrote this because he disagreed with King Charles II's harsh treatment of the Whig movement. He worked against the idea that kings have complete control over their people, which was called monarchical absolutism.

Locke wrote about many things, like how important it is to own property, how Native Americans, women, and children should have rights, how the economy should improve, and how the government should be divided into different parts. He also talked about what God wants and how people's choices should be limited. People still discuss the ideas Locke wrote about today.
