Description

Reconstruction in United States history is the time after the Civil War when the States of the breakaway Confederacy were brought back into the United States of America. It was a process to make this happen. Both Northern moderates and radicals agreed that for the war to be considered a victory, three things had to happen: the Confederacy had to be truly dead, slavery had to be truly dead, and the possibility of either being brought back had to be eliminated. However, there was a lot of controversy about how to achieve these goals and who would decide when they were achieved. This program presents both sides of the controversy and explains how the goals to achieve reconstruction were outlined and accomplished.
