Zaner-Bloser Word Wisdom Grade 6: Student Edition (2017 Edition)

Word Wisdom will help students to take ownership of new vocabulary as they discover the meaning of new words and phrases. They will use context clues, analyze meaningful word parts, and consult reference materials. Students will demonstrate understanding of word relationships and nuances in word meaning and acquire general academic and subject-specific words through lessons that provide direct instruction and context-clues strategies.

The student edition provides a year's worth of lessons that will help students unlock the meaning of over 300 new vocabulary words in context. They will process new words through activities that reinforce meanings and apply new words through activities that access higher thinking skills. In each lesson, students read a passage containing words related to the unit theme and then learn to use a new vocabulary strategy. They interact with words multiple times to reinforce meaning.

This Grade 6 course includes 9 units on the themes of communication, the body, personality, Earth/Sky/Water, movement, relationships, appearance, time, and good and bad. Concepts covered include using context clues, learning specific Greek and Latin roots such as heir, her, gen, lig, and others, and developing specific reference skills such as prefixes, homographs/homophones, and others.
