Each week includes 3 to 6 lessons featuring inquiry labs, an end-of-chapter study guide review, and an assessment section. The work text also includes a science matters feature, examining the practical application of science in real-world scenarios. Third-grade topics covered include the nature of science, technology, the design process, plants, living things, ecosystems, the Earth, weather, the universe, matter, energy, force, motion, and more. Chapters commence with a big question, setting the stage for ensuing lessons, along with an example and prediction question.
Lessons consist of a brief background check with highlighted terms, followed by a more in-depth lesson with integrated questions. These questions link back to the big question, and got it? questions allow students to demonstrate their understanding or seek clarification.
